The photographic explorations of a former film student.

Exploring My Yard

OK, so most of the time people want to take pictures of stuff they don’t see every day. I tend to have this idea that I need to go somewhere to take pictures. The farther away the better too. But sometimes, I just need to take a closer look at what’s around me. It’s an exercise in creativity to see what you can pick out of seeming monotony, to find the interesting things that are actually there, and to make the bland seem interesting.

What did I find in my backyard? Leaves turning for the fall, a few last flowers, and a seasonal invasion of hatching boxelder bugs. Obviously, the last is the most exciting. Lucky me. The possibilities are always there though, you just have to see them.
